This is has been long time suspected, but now the research backs up what was assumed. Trans-fats contribute to, if not trigger obesity!
To summarize: the study compared two groups of primates, one fed monounsaturated oil, and the other an oil containing trans-fats (hydrogenated). Both groups were receiving exactly the same amount of calories, and the amount of calories should not have enabled them to put on weight, however the primates fed trans-fats put weight on, and in a place associated with the highest heart-disease risk. |
