She ain't no virgin

Olive oil gets good press most of the time (no pun intended), it is exonerated as the healthy oil, however sometimes the healthy olive oil is not what consumers are getting.
Light Olive oil is essentially a completely different product, and even what is sometimes labelled "virgin" is not 100% cold-pressed olive oil.

Product recalls recently in Australia have come about when it was found cheap European imports sometimes are diluted by canola oil or the pomace oil (the solvent extracted oil derived from the olive pip) The Pomace oil is apparently one of the most nasty oils you can consume, being very high in peroxide and of course solvents.

The only way to be sure (and heart label tick of approval is useless here) is to buy local organic products which get approval from Olive Growers Associations, who unlike the Heart foundation, do have a vested interest in the health of their products.

Soy Danger

The beloved food of vegetarians is one of the most dangerous food sources available. Whether refined into hydrolysed vegetable protein, hydrogenated vegetable oils or eaten in its more natural state, soy beans are something to avoid. Natural soy-beans contain phyto-estrogens and contribute towards many forms of cancer.
The only soy-products that are safe are those which are fermented, apparently the fermentation process (as used in traditional asian foods) destroys most of the phyto-estrogens. But don't laugh at the hippies just yet. Hydrolysed soy protein turns up in our diets in most processed meats and sausages, so you rednecks hippy bashers should watch out too (especially if you like overcooked meat as well!).

see http://www.soyonlineservice.co.nz/ for more information about the dangers of soy beans.

Here is a less passionate article about soy that is trying to be balanced, and suggests that soy might be OK in moderation.
Health Benefits of Soy. This article however does place it's trust in some studies that may not be be as unbiased as the writer assumes.

Real Milk Campaign NZ - http://www.realmilk.co.nz
I love milk, but when you realize that you are being robbed of some of it's goodness when it is pasteurized, I do feel a little ripped off!

Fructose Corn Syrup

If there is a modern food additive that has caused as much pain as trans-fats it would have to be the fructose syrup infiltrating all our modern sweet foods. It is important to note that fructose in natural fruit is not dangerous, as the nutrition of the fruit helps the body metabolise these sugars. It is the extracted refined product that is dangerous
